Our teachers are in Cairo, so the gap with online Quran classes in the USA and Canada is 7 hours for Eastern time, 8 for Central, 9 for Mountain and 10 for Pacific. In practice that means mornings and weekends are the easiest slots in North America, and weekday evenings are the hardest. This guide shows what that looks like in each time zone.
Time Zone Table
| Your time zone | Cairo is ahead by | Easiest weekday slots (your time) | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlantic (Halifax) | 6 hours | About 7 am to 4 pm | 9:00 am = 3:00 pm Cairo |
| Eastern (New York, Toronto) | 7 hours | About 6 am to 3 pm | 9:00 am = 4:00 pm Cairo |
| Central (Chicago, Houston, Winnipeg) | 8 hours | About 6 am to 2 pm | 9:00 am = 5:00 pm Cairo |
| Mountain (Denver, Calgary) | 9 hours | About 6 am to 1 pm | 9:00 am = 6:00 pm Cairo |
| Pacific (Los Angeles, Vancouver) | 10 hours | About 6 am to 12 noon | 9:00 am = 7:00 pm Cairo |
Newfoundland is 5.5 hours behind Cairo. The ranges are guides, not promises. Weekend slots are wider, and we confirm every lesson in your local time.
Why Weekday Evenings Are Hard
A 5 pm lesson in New York is midnight in Cairo, and a 4 pm lesson in Los Angeles is 2 am. Most teachers cannot offer that regularly. This is the honest trade-off of learning with teachers abroad: you get qualified Al-Azhar trained teachers and one-to-one attention, and in return you plan around mornings and weekends.
Which Slot Suits Which Student
- Children in school: weekend lessons, or a short early-morning slot before the school bus, if that is not too rushed. On holidays, add weekday mornings.
- Homeschoolers: weekday mornings are ideal. See Quran classes for homeschoolers.
- Adults who work: before work, on a lunch break if your hours allow, or at the weekend. See our classes for adults.
- Shift workers and students: tell us your pattern. Some days off fall on a weekday morning, which is a good slot.
When the Gap Shifts by an Hour
The US and Canada change their clocks on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. Egypt has followed daylight saving time in recent years, ending in late October. Because the dates do not match, the gap is one hour smaller for roughly six weeks in spring and for a few days in the autumn. For New York, that means 6 hours instead of 7.
It is worth looking at the lesson time in your calendar around those weeks. If the teacher’s clock and yours move on different days, we confirm the time in your local zone so you are not caught out.
Places That Do Not Change Clocks
Arizona and most of Saskatchewan stay on standard time all year. Their gap with Cairo is 9 hours in winter and 10 in summer, not a fixed number like other regions. If you live there, ask us to confirm the time at the start of each season.
Practical Tips
- Create the lesson in your calendar with your own time zone selected, not Cairo’s.
- Keep the same slot every week so the routine becomes automatic.
- Tell the teacher about school breaks and travel in advance.
- If you travel to a different zone, say so before the lesson, not at the time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What time are online Quran classes for students on Eastern time?
Weekday mornings and early afternoons are easiest, roughly 6 am to 3 pm Eastern. Weekend slots are wider. We confirm every lesson in your local time.
Can my child have lessons after school in the USA?
Weekday after-school slots from about 4 pm are harder to arrange because of the time difference. Many families choose the weekend, an early-morning lesson, or holiday weekdays. Tell us your child’s timetable and we will say honestly what can be covered.
Do you teach on weekends?
Yes. Classes run seven days a week, and weekends are the most popular slots for families with children in school.
Which time zones in the USA and Canada do you cover?
All of them, from Newfoundland to Hawaii and Alaska. The further west you are, the narrower the weekday window. Mornings and weekends work everywhere.
