Quran classes for homeschoolers are easier to arrange than for most families, because homeschooling gives you weekday mornings. Our teachers are in Cairo, 7 to 10 hours ahead of North America, so a 9 am lesson in New York is 4 pm in Cairo. Families whose children are at school can rarely use those hours.
Where Quran Fits in a Homeschool Day
Most homeschooling parents put Quran early, when children are fresh, and keep the lesson short so it does not eat into maths and reading. Three common patterns:
- East Coast (Eastern time): a weekday slot between 8 and 10 am, with the rest of the day for other subjects.
- Central time: a late-morning slot, after breakfast chores and before lunch.
- West Coast (Pacific time): an 8 or 9 am slot, which is 6 or 7 pm in Cairo.
Two or three weekday lessons plus one on the weekend is a common rhythm. If you would rather keep the week free for field trips and co-op days, use weekends only. For the full table of hours, see our guide to online Quran lessons by time zone.
What to Cover at Each Age
- Ages 5 to 7: Arabic letters and sounds with Noorani Qaida, in short lessons.
- Ages 8 to 11: reading the Quran with Tajweed, and short surahs for memory.
- Ages 12 and up: longer memorisation with the Hifz programme, and attention to meaning.
Pace is individual. A child who reads well at eight may still be a beginner at memorising, and that is fine.
Keeping Records
Homeschool rules differ by state and by province, and some places ask for hours or subject lists. Check what applies to you with your state department of education or your provincial ministry. Whatever the rule, a simple log is useful:
- Date and length of each lesson.
- What was covered (letters, surah, Tajweed rule).
- One line on how it went.
We send a monthly progress report that can go straight into the log or a portfolio.
More Than One Child
Lessons are one-to-one, so brothers and sisters can have back-to-back slots, each at their own level. This avoids the problem of a younger child being pulled along at the older sibling’s pace.
Flexibility Is the Point
Homeschool weeks are not regular. Trips, illness and co-op days move things around. Tell the teacher in advance and shift the lesson, instead of dropping the week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can homeschoolers have Quran lessons on weekday mornings?
Yes. Because of the time difference, weekday mornings in North America are afternoon or evening in Cairo, so they are some of the easiest slots to offer.
Does Quran study count towards homeschool hours?
That depends on your state or province and on how your family structures its curriculum. Check the local rules, and keep a log of lessons either way.
How many lessons a week do homeschoolers usually take?
Two or three lessons of 25 to 30 minutes is a common starting point, with a longer lesson on the weekend if you want to go faster.
What time are lessons for Canadian families?
Canada spans six time zones. Tell us your city and we will confirm every lesson in your local time.
