For families living in Doha, Kuwait City and other Gulf cities, finding Quran classes for children is not always simple. Many parents are expats who want their child to read the Quran well but have busy schedules, long commutes and children who speak English at school. This guide compares the main options and explains how online Quran classes work for children in Qatar and Kuwait.
The options families usually consider
Classes at a mosque or centre
Mosque classes are convenient for some families and often low cost. The common difficulties are fixed timetables, larger groups, and teachers who teach in Arabic or Urdu only. If your child is a beginner who needs explanations in English, a large group may not give them the attention they need.
A private tutor at home
A tutor who comes to your home can be very effective, but it is harder to find a qualified one, prices can be high, and traffic and heat make timing difficult. If the tutor cancels, there is usually no alternative.
Online classes
Online classes remove the commute. Your child joins from a quiet room at home, with a teacher chosen for their level. The teacher can be anywhere, so you are not limited to what is available in your neighbourhood. The questions to ask are about the teacher’s qualifications, how the lessons are structured, and how you will see progress.
What parents in Qatar and Kuwait often need
- A teacher who explains in English. Many children in international schools find it easier to learn the Quran when the instructions are clear in English, while the recitation itself is correct Arabic.
- Times that fit the school week. The school week and weekends in the Gulf differ from the UK or the USA, so you need a teacher who can schedule around your child’s timetable.
- Correct recitation. Parents want tajweed taught properly from the start, so bad habits do not form.
- Clear progress. Families want to see what their child has learned, not just be told that it is going well.
- A female teacher if preferred. Some parents prefer a female teacher for their daughters, and sometimes for younger sons.
How our online classes work
Our teachers are native Arabic speakers trained at Al-Azhar and fluent in English. Each student follows a personalized curriculum, and sessions are 30 minutes, with 45 and 60-minute sessions available for advanced students. Plans start at $16 a month for 4 sessions. You can see all three plans on the pricing page.
Other things parents ask about:
- Trial: New students get 2 free trial sessions before choosing a plan.
- Rescheduling: Flexible rescheduling is included, so a school event or a family trip does not mean a lost lesson.
- Recordings: Session recordings let your child revise at home and let you see how the lessons run.
- Reports: Progress reports arrive monthly.
- Support: You can reach us on WhatsApp.

Where to start, by age
Ages 4 to 7
Young children begin with Arabic letters and short surahs, with short sessions and plenty of repetition. Our Quran learning for kids page explains this stage.
Ages 8 to 12
Children at this age can usually read fluently and start tajweed. Memorization can begin with short surahs and grow steadily. See memorization for children for how we approach it.
Teenagers
Teenagers benefit from tajweed refinement, understanding the meaning of what they recite, and a teacher who treats them with respect. A longer session of 45 or 60 minutes often suits them. Read more about learning tajweed online.
